The NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) has been a staple of gaming since it was first released in 1980. It is one of the most popular and recognizable consoles around and the number of games sold is well over 300 million. With such a large library, there's no shortage of games for you to try out. However, if you're looking to delve into something else than the usual Mario and Kirby, this guide will take you through some interesting ROM hacks that offer up unique takes on these classics as well as maybe some that might be new to your experience. So without further ado, it's time to take a look at some games, courtesy of NES ROMs! Level Up! (by: http://www.nesworld.com/) This version for the NES will put you in the shoes of a 5th grader who has to fight his way through all of the levels that he has to endure every day. From dodgeball to physical education, this game will make you want to go back and get your revenge on gym class all over again. The graphics are rendered well and the platforming experience is quite satisfying for this little 8-bit masterpiece. http://www.nesworld.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=63914 The game plays very differently than other games on the NES. While it plays like an action platformer, there's no jump button here! Instead, you have to jump off of walls and other objects to get around the levels! It's slightly reminiscent of Megaman on the NES or Crash Bandicoot on the PS1 in that aspect, but if you're into that sort of thing then this will be right up your alley. The levels are quite diverse and entertaining with lots of secret areas (and secrets) to find in each level. The game is quite challenging, especially towards the end when you get to fight The Big Red Monster. Don't be fooled by the title, though; there's no red monster in this game! When you beat it, though, you'll get to take on the level again (accessed by pressing start) with The Big Red Monster gone and be rewarded with a nice piece of art. There's also another bonus stage that forces you to jump off of walls and press buttons at the right time in order to survive for 30 seconds. It was inspired by Super Monkey Ball (which I may cover in an article later on). If you're looking for an action platformer with great level designs and fun elements, this game will make an excellent addition to your library of roms. Princess Peach has gone missing yet again and it's up to our plumber hero to save her. This game is similar to Super Mario Bros. cfa1e77820
